If the client disconnect correctly through a DHCP Release (Graceful shutdown), then the lease ends upon receipt at the DHCP server, else the lease will expire upon the end of its actual "lease time". This last case is the most frequent one (due to OS crashing, IP stack misbehaving and terminal leaving the scope of a wireless network).

A freely redistributable reference implementation of all aspects of DHCP.ISC DHCP provides a freely redistributable reference implementation of all aspects of DHCP, through a suite of DHCP tools:- A DHCP server- A DHCP client- A DHCP relay agentThese tools all use a modular API which is designed to be sufficiently general that it can easily be made to work on POSIX-compliant operating systems

If I remove the connection of the DHCP client from the Whenever a client gets a IP address through DHCP it is assigned to it for a particular time period , which is known as the lease time . This lease expires after a time period . But till the lease gets over the client will have the same IP . Unless What Is DHCP? (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Nov 09, 2019
